Min & Max Quantities — Combined Variations
Apply limits to combined variation totals — free add-on
Combined Variations is a free add-on for Min & Max Quantities for WooCommerce. By default the base plugin enforces limits on each variation separately; with this add-on the limit applies to the combined total of all a product's variations.
So a minimum of 10 can be met by mixing 4 small and 6 large — instead of needing 10 of each.
This matters most for stores that sell one product in several sizes, colours, flavours or weights and think in terms of a case, pallet or box rather than a single SKU. The customer still sees the normal variation dropdowns, but the cart validates the sum instead of each line.
Because the add-on reuses the parent product's existing minimum, maximum, step and amount fields, there is nothing new to learn and nothing to migrate. Switching a product from per-variation to combined counting is a single checkbox, and turning it back off restores the base plugin's behaviour immediately.
What problem does it solve?
Wholesale and pack-based stores often want a minimum per product, not per size or colour. Enforcing it per variation forces customers to over-buy. Combining variation totals fixes that.
Key features
- Combine variation quantities into one limit
- Combined min/max spend across variations
- Simple per-product toggle
- Requires the free Min & Max Quantities plugin
How it works
Enable "Combine variation limits" on a variable product's Inventory tab. The base plugin's per-variation enforcement is suppressed and the product's own limits are checked against the summed quantity and amount of all its variations in the cart. When a shopper is under the combined minimum, WooCommerce blocks checkout and shows a message naming the parent product and how many units are still missing, so nobody has to guess which variation to add. Step values work the same way: a step of 6 means the combined total must be 6, 12, 18 and so on, regardless of how the shopper splits those units between variations. Combined amount limits are calculated on the line totals of every variation of that product, after discounts, which keeps wholesale minimum-spend rules accurate.
Use cases
Use this plugin when you want to:
- Minimum order across all sizes of a product, so a customer can mix small, medium and large to reach it
- Sell mixed variation packs with one combined limit, such as a 12-bottle case built from any flavours
- Combined maximum to cap a product across variations during a launch or limited stock run
- Combined spend limits per product for wholesale buyers who must reach a per-item order value
- Fixed pack sizes for print, textile or food products sold per box rather than per variant

Frequently asked questions
Does it need the base plugin?+
Yes. It extends Min & Max Quantities for WooCommerce and shows a notice if the base plugin is not active.
Where do I set the limits?+
On the parent variable product, exactly like the base plugin. The add-on only changes whether they are counted per variation or combined.
Is it free?+
Yes — free on WordPress.org, no premium tier.
Can I use combined limits on some products and per-variation limits on others?+
Yes. The setting is per product, so one variable product can count its variations together while every other product keeps the base plugin's per-variation validation.
Does it work with step values and minimum spend?+
Yes. Step, minimum quantity, maximum quantity and minimum/maximum amount are all evaluated against the combined total of the product's variations in the cart.
What does the customer see when the combined minimum is not met?+
WooCommerce blocks the checkout and shows a cart notice naming the product and the number of units still required, instead of a message per variation.
